Mr. Clarence “Pete” Gentry Morton, Sr., age 103 of Allensville, passed away on Saturday morning, September 10, 2016 at his home of natural causes.
He was born August 8, 1913 in Logan County, Kentucky the son of the late Jerry and Cleo Kendell Morton. He was a member of the Spillman Chapel CME Church in Allensville. He was a Steward Board Chairman, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member and Treasurer. He was the founder and lead singer of the Spillman Chapel Quartet.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife of 62 years Esther Bellamy Morton; one son Gene A. Morton; one brother James Muir, Jr. and one great grandson Gentry Allison. He is survived by two sons Jerry W. Morton (Henrietta) of Winchester, Kentucky and Clarence G. Morton, Jr. of Allensville; two daughters Levanora Allison of Russellville and Eva E. Morton of Somerset, Kentucky and five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation with the Morton family will be on Friday from 10:00 until 12:00 at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Allensville. Funeral service is scheduled to be conducted on Friday at 12:00 in the chapel of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Allensville.
