Rev. William "W.D." Darby Sharp

Rev. William Darby “W.D.” Sharp, age 90 of Elkton, Kentucky passed away on Monday, December 18, at Tennova Healthcare, Clarksville, Tennessee, of natural causes.

He was born December 23, 1926 in Athens, Alabama, the son of Early Oxford “E.O.” and Edna (Clement) Sharp.

He was a Sergeant in the 9^th Regiment Ordnance of the United States Army, serving as a Supply Sergeant. He graduated from Carson-Newman University, Jefferson City, Tennessee and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky where he earned his Master of Divinity Degree.  Rev. Sharp was ordained to the ministry in Clinton, Tennessee in 1953 and served churches in Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia and Florida.  He started working with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in West Virginia in 1966, and retired in 1992 as Director of Missions of the Brevard Baptist Association of the Florida Baptist Convention. In retirement he was an active member of Todd County Senior Citizens where he led weekly Bible studies as well as creating a daily online devotional and Bible study.  He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and SEC football.

Rev. Sharp was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife of 72 years Janette Estep Sharp of Elkton, Kentucky; two sons Tim Sharp (Jane) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Ted Sharp of Clarksville, Tennessee.  Also surviving are four grandchildren Garrett, Emily, Collin and Emma.

Visitation with the Sharp family will be on Friday from 10:00 until 12:00 at the Todd County Funeral Home, Elkton, Kentucky.  There will be a Graveside Service following visitation at 12:30 at the Todd County Meadow Haven in Elkton with Rev. Mark Keith officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Rev. W.D. Sharp to Sunrise Children’s Services, P.O. Box 1429, Mount Washington, Kentucky 40047.
