The Cook-Webb Funeral Home is honored to have been called to serve the family of Mr. James R. Smith.
Mr. James R. “J.R.” Smith, age 92, of Trenton, passed away on Monday, January 15th at the Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.
Mr. Smith was born on June 12, 1931, in Pembroke, Kentucky. He was the son of the late J.D. and Jewell Garrott Smith.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a farmer, and he loved his family, farming, fishing, camping, and Kentucky Basketball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene Powell Smith and a stepdaughter, Barbara Lawson Porter. He is survived by his wife, Irene Lawson-Smith of Trenton; one son, Jamie Smith (Sue) of Columbia, Kentucky; one daughter, Michelle Smith Creasman (Tommy) of Decatur, Tennessee; two stepdaughters, Ruth Lawson Bland (Stewart) and Jenny Lawson Morris (T.T.) all of Trenton; one brother, J.D. Smith (Malinda) of Trenton; two grandchildren, Trey Watson (Kayla) of Niceville, Florida and Tyler Watson (Tiffany) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; three step grandchildren, James Creasman of Decatur, Tennessee, Anna Creasman Lee of Billingham, Washington, and Lawson Bland of Maine and six great grandchildren.
Please note the family has made the decision to postpone the visitation and service from Saturday, January 20th to Saturday, January 27th.
Visitation with the Smith family will be held on Saturday, January 27th from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Cook-Webb Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Childress officiating. Interment to follow at the Edgewood Cemetery in Trenton.
