William "Bill" Longhurst

October 6, 1938 ~ March 23, 2018 (age 79)

Mr. Bill Longhurst, age 79 of Guthrie, passed away on Friday morning March 23rd at his home of natural causes. 


He was born October 6, 1938 in Todd County the son of the late William Longhurst Sr. and Robbye Dickinson Longhurst. 


Mr. Bill was very well known in our community as a pillar and a leader having dedicated his life to the Guthrie Community.  He enjoyed many things, which included serving sandwiches and having conversations and reminiscing over a Coca – Cola in the Longhurst General Store that he owned.  A member of the Guthrie Baptist Church he was a graduate of the Guthrie High School as well as Austin Peay State University.  He was known for his love of sports, he played on the KT Baseball League, coached basketball and little league baseball, he also enjoyed a game of golf and watching UK.


He was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife Elaine Longhurst of Guthrie; two sons Russ Longhurst of Guthrie and Glen Longhurst (Tracy) of Maryville, Tennessee; one sister Barbara Sisk of Hopkinsville and two grandchildren Jaxon and Brooke Longhurst. 


Visitation with the Longhurst family will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 at the Cook-Webb Funeral Home.  Funeral service is scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday at 1:00 at the Guthrie Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11:00 until funeral service time at 1:00 at the Guthrie Baptist Church with Reverend Karen Franklin officiating.  Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
