William “Bill” Simon, age 87 of Goreville, Illinois and formerly of Todd County, passed away on Tuesday, January 21st at the Shawnee Senior Living in Herrin, Illinois surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on July 1, 1932 in Posen, Illinois the son of the late William and Violet Jozwick Simon.
Bill met the love of his life, Enola, in Hopkinsville, KY at a car hop while he was stationed at Fort Campbell as a Paratrooper during the Korean War. He noticed a pretty girl across the parking lot and in his nervous attempt to get out of his car to talk to her, he slammed his hand in the door, she rushed over with a first aid kit and they locked eyes, and from there they just celebrated 65 years of a loving marriage.
He was a member of the Catholic Church and was a Union Truck Driver in Chicago for over 30 years. He was an avid outdoors man with a passion for hunting, fishing and beautiful landscaping. His boys were his pride and joy and he loved spending time with them and was so proud of their accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Enola (Watkins) Simon of Goreville, Illinois; three sons William (Cindy), Floyd (Patty) and Alan (Marcy) Simon all of Illinois; five grandchildren Joshua, Justin (Venessa), Lacy, Randi and Alayna and five great grandchildren Tristan, Elijah, Paisley, Ava and Mack.
Visitation with the Simon family will be on Friday from 11:00 until funeral service time at 1:00 in the Rose Chapel of the Todd County Funeral Home in Elkton, Kentucky with Rev. Roger Bassit officiating.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at the Shawnee Senior Living facility. The level of sympathy, compassion and respect will always be remembered and appreciated.

Quote from Enola: “I woke up the morning after, reached for you, realized you weren’t there and wondered what am I supposed to do without you. Then I remembered 65 years ago we vowed till death do us part. I was supposed to love you the rest of my life, but you loved me the rest of yours first.”
